Banks on the run…

Credit CardsI mentioned the concept of claiming back your unfair bank charges a while back, pointing to Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert site.

The situation on this is a little complicated at the moment – the banks are stalling all claims until a test case is settled in court (I believe that this is due to happen early 2008).  However, I heard a throwaway line on the radio news today which stated that the Office of Fair Trading (who is bringing the case against the banks) has rejected the claims of the banks that their claims are fair, and the court has accepted this refutation.

This means that we are one step closer to being able to reclaim charges again.  In the meantime, apparently, you can still reclaim credit card charges and missold payment protection plan policies (I should do this – I didn’t know that I even *had* a payment protection plan with one credit card until I paid it off.  Wouldn’t be so annoying but I could have claimed when I was made redundant had I known!).

I, for one, am rather excited by this, and when I have some free time, I intend to get jiggy with my highlighter pen and my bank statements :-)
